thanks for letting me know. I just startted collecting. I used to have a older man that lived in my apartment complex who was disabled and loved to have company cause he was very lonely. Every time I would visit him he would give me coins from his collection and tell me to hold on to them. He was so into coins and after he died I started collecting out of the fact that I missed him and getting coins. So I started looking up values and buying. I'm working on Presidental proof now and I've been reading about diff. coins and their value so whatever I can find. I love silver ounce coins and expecially the china panda ones but have be causioned against those so right no just whatever I can find. I keep hunting for error coins but cant find any. My grandfather just recently gave me some wheat pennies and old coins along with a private bank issued $3 bill I'm soooo excited. Wow I'm long winded huh? Anyway thanks for asking and letting me know about the auction. My grandfather told me you should only buy from the us mint, any truth to that?
Hi T-pak
My grandfather told me you should only buy from the us mint, any truth to that?
that is a yes and a no, lol
mint and proof set are a nice way to pick up uncerculated coins, but you can bye from others, but the first is to do what you are doing, learn first. then you can start on like e-bay, but start on small doller coins. what ever coin you look at, try to figer out what grade you think it is, then when the coin come in ,is if you are right. i use the ana gradeing standerd, if you pick up a copy of the red book ,on the first of every diffrent coins it will tell you what to look for and place a grade, but dont worry you will make some mastakes,
buy from people you have got to know and trust. there are many good collectors and dealers out there, but there are just as many scammmers to, so you have to be so carefull.
all if you have the time, check your local area there and see if there is a coin club that you may join. can learn alot from other collectors.
your more than welcome to come to the main site of U S Coin Collecting and join us there. i am one of the mangers.
we have free coin give aways, chirstmass raffle ,lot of free coins in that plus this year was kind of small grade prize but i think was over a 1000.00 last year it was over 1500.00 cash, lol we allso do just for the fun of it ,post pic and other try to say what the grade of the coin is, ,help sharpen our skills to deal with e-bay heheheh ,ok now i am just as long winded as you. lol
